Mereworth was built in the 1720s to designs by Colen Campbell for Colonel John Fane. It was built as an almost exact replica of Andrea Palladio’s Villa Rotunda. (top) A section of Mereworth Castle as drawn by Colen Campbell. The moat is spanned by arches under the north and south flights of steps.
